Osten, a trusted name in Total Quality Assurance and Sustainability solutions, is seeking a competent and motivated Microbiologist to support operations at our environmental and production chemistry laboratory in Port Harcourt.
This role is essential in driving accurate microbiological testing and analysis across a variety of petroleum and environmental samples.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing: on produced water, process fluids, and chemical and environmental samples, including tests for Sulphate Reducing Bacteria (SRBs), bioaccumulation, and toxicity.
  • Collect, label, and preserve petroleum and environmental samples: ensuring integrity, proper documentation, and chain of custody.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain microbial laboratory equipment: in accordance with QA/QC and ISO standards.
  • Compile and interpret microbial data: prepare detailed technical reports for audits, compliance, and tender documentation.
  • Protocols Compliance: Ensure all microbiological procedures comply with regulatory, client, and company HSE protocols.

Education and Work Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline.

Experience:

Minimum of 2–3 years’ practical experience in microbiological testing, preferably in a petroleum or environmental laboratory setting.

Corporate Sustainability:

Knowledge of ISO standards and industry-specific regulatory frameworks.

Skills and Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word in particular).
  • Strong understanding of microbiological techniques and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Skilled in the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment for microbial testing.
  • Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and data integrity.
  • Strong analytical thinking and effective written/verbal communication.
