Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR)

MAKE INVISIBLE HAZARDOUS GASES VISIBLE – SAVE LIVES, REVENUE, AND THE DAY

In the oil and gas industry, the safety and efficiency of operations depend on the ability to detect and repair dangerous gas leaks. At Osten Laboratory Limited, we understand the critical importance of leak detection and repair (LDAR) services in safeguarding the environment and your bottom line. Our advanced technology and expertise position us as Africa’s leading LDAR service provider.

At Osten Laboratory, we are committed to revolutionizing how the oil and gas industry addresses the challenge of gas leaks. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, we empower our clients to tackle fugitive emissions effectively, reduce hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) emissions, and safeguard their operations.

Why Choose Osten for Your LDAR Needs?

Advanced Technology

Utilizing the latest Optical Gas Imaging (QOGI) cameras, we provide comprehensive leak surveys that detect leak sources and quantify leak volumes in real time. This data can be transmitted to clients’ cloud storage via Wi-Fi.

Our state-of-the-art equipment ensures efficient inspection of thousands of connections and fittings, enabling the detection of even the smallest leaks without the extensive downtime associated with traditional methods. As pioneers in OGI technology in Africa, we quickly and safely detect, visualize, and locate hard-to-reach and hazardous gas leaks. By making the invisible visible, we minimize costly downtime, revenue losses, and environmental impact.

Aerial Optical Gas Imaging

Osten has partnered with Workswell, an OGI manufacturer, to enhance our LDAR services through unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Our aerial OGI technology allows us to safely and efficiently detect over 400 gases and can scan large facilities, identifying fugitive emissions of greenhouse gases and other volatile organic compounds in a fraction of the time required by handheld devices. This innovation significantly improves safety and inspection efficiency, especially when scanning flare stacks, hazardous areas, and instruments at height.

How We Can Support You

At Osten Laboratory, we offer a complete suite of LDAR services to meet our client’s diverse needs:

LDAR Program Development

We collaborate with operators to develop robust LDAR programs, including strategies for leak detection, repair, data recording, and compliance with regulations and industry standards.

LDAR Inspection and Monitoring

Our specialists employ advanced technologies to identify leaks across oil and gas assets, pipelines, storage tanks, and other critical infrastructure. We conduct thorough inspections to ensure accurate detection and timely repairs.

Record Keeping and Audit

We assist operators in maintaining comprehensive records of leak detection and repair activities, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards. Our processes ensure data integrity and regulatory adherence.

Training and Sales

We offer training programs to develop in-house capacity for LDAR and provide sales services for OGI cameras and UAV solutions

Leak Repairs

Most standards require an initial repair within five days of leak detection and a full repair within 15 days. Leaks not fixed within this timeframe must be added to the “Delay of Repair“ list for the next shutdown phase. Osten employs technologies like Furmanite, bolt torquing, tensioning, and composite wrapping to repair leaks in-line, enabling effective repairs without system shutdown and minimizing operational disruption

The Importance of LDAR

 1. Adherence to Environmental Regulations

With over 150 countries implementing national methane action plans, compliance with LDAR regulations is more critical than ever. In Nigeria, the NUPRC Guide 0024 – 2022 mandates operators to carryout LDAR survey half yearly with the use of optical gas imaging instruments or other approve technology.

2. Prevent Financial Loss

Studies indicate that operators can lose between 0.05% and 2% of gas production to leaks. Early detection allows timely repairs, minimizing costs related to lost products, environmental penalties, and unplanned shutdowns.

3. Enhanced Safety

LDAR systems significantly reduce the risk of accidents, such as explosions and fires, contributing to a safer working environment in the oil and gas sector.

4. Asset Integrity

Continuous monitoring and periodic inspections of at-risk areas are vital for maintaining asset integrity in the oil and gas industry. Our OGI technology provides essential remote leak analysis for effective emergency response.

OGI Camera Applications:

  • Process Plants: Rapid detection and visualization of leaks to prevent major damage and avoid penalties.
  • Natural Gas Pipelines: Regular monitoring of complex pipeline networks to identify leaks without extensive excavation.
  • LNG Facilities: Early detection of leaks to ensure safe handling and transportation of liquefied natural gas.
  • Drilling Operations: Routine monitoring of remote drilling sites to catch potential leaks before they escalate.

Osten is dedicated to being the trusted partner of choice for oil and gas operators in Africa. By leveraging our expertise in advanced leak detection technologies and maintaining a strong focus on safety and environmental protection, we empower our clients to operate confidently, reduce costs, and comply with evolving regulatory requirements.

Let us help you make invisible gases visible and ensure the safety and integrity of your operations.
